Kilauea Iki Trail and Crater Rim Trail

Despite the elevation (nearly 4,000 feet), it was warm, about 75 degrees. Light breeze. Mostly clear sky, initially. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a picnic lunch. Good hiking shoes are recommended, although tennis shoes were not uncommon on the trail, and I did see a few pairs of Crocs. This is a moderate hike, … Continue reading Kilauea Iki Trail and Crater Rim Trail

Suffice it to say that the weekend in Truckee was memorable: soccer golf (my favorite and least favorite sports) at Old Greenwood, Sermon on the Mount (with a fabulous speech on proportionality and the toxicity of cancel culture from someone wise well beyond … Continue reading Truckee Gold

During the Pandemic

A picture says a thousand words. Well, this one says fewer, but you get the point. This is from downtown San Mateo, California, USA. Your town or city might have something like this. Take time to read it. Really powerful stuff. What have you lost? What are you hopeful for? What are you grateful for?

Que Sera Syrah

No time for a proper post this week (sorry), so here a few recent selections from Napa, California (Migration Winery). The 2019 Santa Rita Hills Syrah, in particular, was fabulous - deep, a tad spicy, with hints of blackberry, boysenberry, and vanilla. Now, if only the finger foods were slightly bigger …. Enjoy.

Sleepless in Seattle

Local Political Nonsense Happy Saturday! Lots to discuss. About a month ago, I promised to write a weekly column, to be published on Saturday. Here's the last one. I'd be happy to write more, if you, the reader, so wish. First, more local political nonsense, in the California State Assembly race, between Giselle Hale, clearly … Continue reading Sleepless in Seattle
