Some observations from yesterday’s hike:
- Count on it to be foggy in Daly City, and scorching everywhere else. The San Francisco Bay is full of microclimates. See below.
- 7 mile out-and-back, 1,900 feet of elevation gain, warm and humid, a veritable greenhouse, at the bottom and solid heat at the top, interrupted by the occasional (and mercifully cool) ocean breeze.
- Blondie is one of the most underrated bands of all time. Rapture, Call Me, Tide is High, Heart of Glass, One Way or Another, need I say more?
- Speak softly and carry a big stick. Scroll down.
- Bull thistle, Italian thistle, or something else (that you do not want to sit down on). Scroll down, and if you tell me the right answer, you get to pick the next hike.
- No dogs, snakes, or mountain lions, oh my. Scroll down.
- Prigozhin or Putin? No good option there. Stability or instability? Same. Rebuilding Ukraine? First, the war needs to end. Does Zelensky really intend to reclaim Crimea? The more I read about and discuss these topics, the more convinced I am that no one seems to know any more than anyone else.
- EV curious, whole-body pescatarian (every part of the fish); submersibles; living in Eastern Europe in the early 1990s and in China at the end of the century; the Pacific Crest Trail; the John Muir Trail; the San Francisco Cross-Town Trail; AI (and no, this post was not written by generative AI, or it would have been far better (or worse) – hike long enough, and with a group with a truly diverse set of interests, and more than a few topics will be covered.
- Pilsner or Lager? It’s a Barebottle, so good either way.
- Moss Beach Distillery (MBD) or Sam’s Chowder House (SCH)? After 2 years at MBD, time to expand our horizons and try SCH.
