Pulgas Ridge OSP – September PHG Hike

It does not rain in the San Francisco Bay Area in September. I have lived here for nearly 43 years and can attest to this fact of nature. Sprinkle, maybe. Rain, definitely not. Thus, when my weather app forecasted 60% chance of rain at 8am this morning, I thought little of it. At 9am, it showed 0%. Problem solved. Of course, as luck would have it, by 9am the 0% had become 100% (go figure!), but as mentioned, based on experience, I expected nothing more than a few sprinkles. I was right, somewhat. There were more than a few drops, but by 10am the precipitation had ceased, and a rainbow was faintly visible. Dusky Woodrat was a bit muddy in spots, but manageable, especially with a functional pair of hiking shoes. A few more drops ensued, but, for the most part we were dry, moving, engaged in conversation, on topics as wide ranging as the legacy of Queen Mum (below), new jobs (King Charles’, mine), Russia/Ukraine, getting older and associated remedies (home and otherwise), travel, and so on. It had been more than two months since our last hike, to Windy Hills OSP. This was another shorter one, perhaps five miles, moderate, a much welcomed (at least to me) respite from the travails of the week, quality time on a sleepy Sunday morning with old and new friends. Enjoy.
